City restores 2 NYPD academy classes

Number of cops has shrunk to decades-low

With the NYPD’s headcount at a generational low and officer departures still running high, Mayor Eric Adams on Saturday announced the restoration of two police academy classes that had been canceled as part of budget cuts late last year. 

The reinstated academy classes, each with 600 recruits, have been included in the executive budget, Adams said during a noontime press event in West Harlem. The six-month classes will begin in July and October and graduate, respectively, in January and April next year.
